2019 NRL – New Zealand Warriors vs Gold Coast Titans Preview & Prediction
THE TEAM NEWS
NEW ZEALAND WARRIORS
Head Coach: Stephen Kearney
Starting 13: Tuivasa-Sheck, Fusitu’a, Hiku, Kata, Maumalo, Harris-Tavita, Green, Paasi, Lawton, Ah Mau, Papali’i, Harris, Blair – Interchanges: Tevaga, Afoa, Burr, Sao – Reserves: Beale, Pulu, Keighran, Ayshford
Unavailable: Sam Lisone, Nathaniel Roache, Issac Luke
New Zealand Warriors were thrashed by Manly last week in an awful display as the Warriors failed to use the Christchurch Stadium to their advantage and will hope a return to Mt Smart will provide them with some home comforts.
Last week was classed as an away game for the Warriors despite being played in New Zealand but it wasn’t enough, and head coach Stephen Kearney has made several changes as a result this week.
The main change comes at five-eight with Adam Keighran dropped which sees Chanel Harris-Tevita getting a chance to start along with Leeson Ah Mau, who is promoted to the starting line-up, whilst Karl Lawton replaces the injured Issac Luke.
GOLD COAST TITANS
Head Coach: Garth Brennan
Starting 13: Gordon, Don, Peachey, Kelly, Copley, Roberts, Taylor, Wallace, Rein, James, Proctor, Cartwright, Arrow – Interchanges: Brimson, Fotuaika, Boyd, Hipgrave – Reserves: King, Sami, Jacks, Whitbread
Unavailable: Jack Stockwell, Will Matthews, Nathan Peats
Gold Coast produced their best football of the season as they ran South Sydney Rabbitohs close last week, but ultimately they fell short on the wrong end of a 28-20 scoreline at ANZ.
The Titans have been given a huge boost this week with the return of first-choice halves pairing Tyrone Roberts and Ash Taylor with AJ Brimson retained in the 17 on the bench as a utility.
Phillip Sami and Max King have both been dropped from the bench with Moeaki Fotuaika earning a spot whilst Dale Copley retains his place on the wing after a good showing against Souths.
THE PREDICTION
New Zealand Warriors and Gold Coast Titans can be inconsistent at the best of times but both have produced some poor efforts to begin the season, and with just one win between them as we head into Round 4, they are desperate for a win to kick-start their campaigns. The Warriors were shocking last week which has forced a change in the halves whilst the Titans have changed both halves due to the return of Ash Taylor and Tyrone Roberts. That pair could give the Titans a big boost, but preference just settles with the Warriors who should produce a response on home soil.
