2019 NRL – Parramatta Eels vs Sydney Roosters Preview & Prediction
THE TEAM NEWS
PARRAMATTA EELS
Head Coach: Brad Arthur
Starting 13: Gutherson, Sivo, M. Jennings, Takairangi, Ferguson, D. Brown, Moses, Alvaro, Mahoney, Paulo, Lane, Niukore, Moeroa – Interchanges: Salmon, Mannah, Evans, Gower – Reserves: Kaufusi, Terepo, Hoffman, G. Jennings
Unavailable: Manu Ma’u, Kasya Pritchard, Peni Terepo, Michael Jennings, Nathan Brown, Will Smith
Parramatta made it two wins from two to begin 2019 as they backed up last week's win over Penrith with a big win over Canterbury but now face a huge test against 2018 Premiers Sydney Roosters.
The Eels will have Michael Jennings back after a one-game ban and he comes straight back into the side for Josh Hoffman who drops to the reserves whilst David Gower has been passed fit.
Parramatta will be under no illusions of the task they face here despite their strong start to this season after conceding a total of 92 points in their last two matches against the Roosters.
SYDNEY ROOSTERS
Head Coach: Trent Robinson
Starting 13: Tedesco, Tupou, Mitchell, Manu, Ikuvalu, Keary, Cronk, Waerea-Hargreaves, Friend, Taukeiaho, Cordner, Aubusson, Radley – Interchanges: Liu, Tetevano, Faamausili, Crichton – Reserves: Lamb, Kepaoa, Butcher, Lam
Unavailable: Ryan Hall, Billy Smith, Brett Morris, Lindsay Collins
Sydney Roosters had to fend off a late Manly comeback as the reigning Premiers claimed their first win of the 2019 NRL season and now face Parramatta as they look to end their unbeaten start.
The Roosters will be without Brett Morris and Lindsay Collins after they picked up injuries against Manly, Morris with a knee injury that will sideline him for a couple of weeks and Collins with a head knock.
In more positive news for the Roosters, Cooper Cronk and Jake Friend return to the side having missed the Manly game and that sees Lachlan Lam drop off the bench having made his debut last week.
THE PREDICTION
Parramatta have been on the end of two heavy defeats in their previous encounters against Sydney Roosters but the Eels will be hoping for different this season. They have started the year with two wins although this will be their toughest contest by far. The Roosters did well in terrible conditions against the Sea Eagles and would have won comfortably but for a late comeback when the game was arguably already won. The Eels have done well so far but this presents a real test of where they are as a team and the Roosters will condemn them to their first loss of the year.
