2019 NRL – South Sydney Rabbitohs vs Gold Coast Titans Preview & Prediction
THE TEAM NEWS
SOUTH SYDNEY RABBITOHS
Head Coach: Wayne Bennett
Starting 13: Johnston, Allan, Gagai, Burns, Graham, Walker, Reynolds, Tatola, Cook, T. Burgess, Sutton, S. Burgess, Murray – Interchanges: Nicholls, Lowe, Turner, Sironen – Reserves: Kennedy, Gagan
Unavailable: George Burgess, Dean Britt, Kurt Dillon, Adam Doueihi, Greg Inglis
South Sydney produced a brilliant second half performance to negate their awful first half effort as they comfortably saw off the Dragons to make it two win from two to start the season.
John Sutton and Greg Inglis both suffered knocks against the Dragons last week and despite both initially been named in the team, the latter has had to pull out with the shoulder injury he sustained.
Inglis’ withdrawal sees Dane Gagai shift to centre and Corey Allan come in on the wing whilst Liam Knight has been dropped after a poor showing last week and is replaced by Bayley Sironen on the bench.
GOLD COAST TITANS
Head Coach: Garth Brennan
Starting 13: Gordon, Don, Peachey, Kelly, Lee, Brimson, Jacks, Wallace, Rein, Boyd, Proctor, James, Arrow – Interchanges: Sami, Fotuaika, King, Cartwright – Reserves: Hipgrave, Copley
Unavailable: Jack Stockwell, Will Matthews, Tyrone Roberts, Ash Taylor, Nathan Peats
Gold Coast suffered their second loss to begin the season as they were beaten by Cronulla last week despite a huge game from Jai Arrow in which the lock ran for an outstanding 290 metres.
The Titans have only scored one try in 160 minutes of football so far and will be without their first choice halves pairing again with Tyrone Roberts and Ash Taylor failing to overcome their respective injuries.
In further bad news for the Titans and their spine in particular, Nathan Peats suffered a torn pectoral muscle in training this week and will be out for up to three months with Mitch Rein coming in at hooker.
THE PREDICTION
South Sydney have started the season in impressive fashion as they overcame a poor first half performance to sweep past the Dragons in the second period last week. They now host a Gold Coast team that look bereft of ideas with ball in hand and that spells danger for the Titans. They are likely to struggle even more with the absence of Nathan Peats and despite Souths losing Greg Inglis, they will win comfortably.
